Why Rejection Is Awesome: How To Master The Art Of Rejection & Overcome Your Greatest Fears

All of us at some stage, have experienced the fear of rejection or indeed, been rejected. For many, it leaves them feeling like there is something wrong with them and if it happens repeatedly, may even lead to self-doubt and other self-esteem/self-confidence issues if not managed correctly.

In this Google Talk, Jia Jiang who has reportedly mastered the art of rejection and who looks forward to getting rejected on a daily basis, talks about mastering our own rejection fears and how we can turn this to our advantage.

Jiang’s advice is based on his own personal life experiences, his entrepreneurial journey and 100 Days of Rejection Therapy. He provides some lighthearted, simple, yet seemingly profound solutions and he makes a good argument for welcoming rejection and enjoying the journey.

Other points covered include: “Customer Service: How to Turn Rejections Into Opportunities – You Can Say ‘NO’ and Make Me a Fan — what my 100 crazy requests taught me about great customer service – Sales and Life: Why Rejection Is Your Best Friend.”

It may appear to some that Jiang’s life goal of building a world without the fear of rejection is somewhat idealistic and perhaps even wishful thinking on his part. Nevertheless, it is a worthy goal and to date, it would seem that he has made notable inroads along the path to achieving it.

  1. I was less than polite to a telemarketer last week because of their persistence and attempts to overcome my persistent objections. My objection was real; I didn’t want them calling me and asked them to remove us from their list. Apparently that could only happen after her supervisor called me back. I told her not to bother because he will just get a mouthful of abuse. She said that is ok, we are used to that and happy to take it.

I think these people may have been taught by Jia Jiang. 🙂

BTW: My natural state is very calm and it takes a lot to piss me off, but people attempting to overcome objections with me a is surefire way to poke the bear and get slapped good and proper.

  2. I saw this on the TEDx talks. Great motivator. Imagine setting yourself up for rejection and turning it into a great learning experience. That’s how it’s done!

  3. Thanks for this Mike. This is a subject usually reserved for professional salesmen. But, we are all salesmen in one way or another and should all receive this kink of training.

  4. This is something that all of us fear – and the ability to handle it would be a HUGE asset for growth! Imagine it? Awesome thanks Mike.

  5. A Great article Mike. My biggest hurdle in doing sales is the fear of getting rejection. If one can overcome this then it won’t take long to join the “Success” club.
